In the second episode of CBS reality competition series "The Summit," contestants are reminded how cutthroat the adventure of a lifetime they signed up for is.
The series follows a group of strangers who must work together to climb a mountain in the Southern Alps of New Zealand. Throughout their journey contestants carry a $1 million cash prize evenly distributed among themselves in backpacks as they reach several checkpoint camps. At the camps, they must vote each other out. Along the way, they have to overcome obstacles and are forced to make difficult decisions presented by what's called "The Mountain Keeper."
In Wednesday's episode, alliances were formed and plans were conceived as contestants headed toward the top of Mount Head. If the entire group of remaining contestants fails to reach the summit in 14 days, they all go home empty handed.
By the end of the episode there are only 12 hikers left following another elimination vote and a callous twist where a player cut down a rope bridge while another was maneuvering across. (If you don't like spoilers this isn't the story for you.)
Who was eliminated on the rope bridge?
East Texas teacher Bo Martin, 52, was eliminated during Wednesday's obstacle in the show's most emotionally brutal moment yet.

In this week's obstacle, the 14 remaining hikers had to make their way over a gorge across a rickety bridge with missing and dangling pieces. They also had to carry pieces to complete the path as they make their way one-by-one.
The team opted for Georgia neuroscientist Geoff Green, 28, to be the first person to cross and when he did, the Mountain's Keeper's helicopter flew over and dropped the producer's most ruthless twist of the episode: Each person who crosses must decide who goes next until there is one person left and the bridge is chopped down with them on it.
New York grocery store worker Jeannie Geyer, 56, is the third-to-last person chosen to cross and had to decide between Martin and 37-year-old Southern California barber Pati Arana. Both Pati and Bo shared a tearjerker moment when Bo told her "You better be that last one to give me a hug at the end."
After making it across and told that she must lure Bo to his elimination, she immediately starts sobbing.
"I'm coming for you Pati," Bo said moments before Geoff cuts down the bridge and cuts Bo's journey short. With his exit so went the money he carried, bringing the total prize pot down to $875,000. (The prize money decreases with each elimination unless they are voted out.)
Who was voted out of 'The Summit'?
Toronto corporate strategist Shweta Choudhury, 28, was voted out at the end of Wednesday's episode of "The Summit."
Aligned with 29-year-old Indianapolis trauma nurse Dennis Cho, the two plotted to vote out 33-year-old Columbus Air Force member Punkin Jackson, threatened by her allegiance to Geoff. However it was San Diego construction worker Beckylee Rawls, 27, who vocalized her distain for Shweta by telling others that she personally found her ingenuine.
With 12 votes against Shweta, the cunning game strategist was forced to empty her bag and leave the mountain. Dennis voted for his ally understanding that this is a numbers game and he does not want to be odd one out.
"I didn't make the summit and I got kicked off unanimously by all my friends They voted off somebody who was smart who was strategic, who was loyal and who was killing it in these hikes," Shweta said in her confessional. "Let's see how they do without me?"
Who is the host of 'The Summit'?
New Zealand actor Manu Bennett serves as the host of CBS's reality series "The Summit."
Bennett is best known for his work in "Spartacus," "Arrow" and "The Hobbit" films.
Where is 'The Summit' filmed?
CBS's "The Summit" was filmed in the Southern Alps of New Zealand. The group begins their 14-day journey to the top at Lake Wakatipu near Glenorchy, a town in the South Island.

The next episode of the "The Summit" airs Wednesday, Oct 13 from 9:30-11 p.m. ET/PT on CBS after "Survivor."
